Include an Opposing View
In addition to arguing a point. You will include an opposing view (or rebuttal) where a concession will be made. In the rebuttal, you will acknowledge that an opposing view does have some merit. Then, you will respond with an explanation as to why your position is still stronger. Note: The rebuttal is often, but not always, addressed in the last body paragraph of an essay.
Essay Structure
- The introduction will introduce the articles and will include your thesis statement (the claim you intend to support).
- The body of the essay will present reasons and evidence (from the texts) in support of your own position.
- The rebuttal will acknowledge that the opposing view does have some merit and then explain why your position is still the stronger one.
- The conclusion will restate your thesis and provide a sense of closure.
Formatting and Length Requirements:
Length 4-5 pages double spaced (1200 words)
Font Times New Roman or Calibri (12 or 11 point font size respectively)
Format MLA
