I included all the readings and the screenshots for the readings to know which pages its on. If there isn’t one for the book then it means the whole thing. Also you dont need to use all the readings but use more than 4. The rubric is there in the files.
Your formal prompt for your first paper is:
Prompt:
When and why did Europeans begin to enslave Africans, specifically? Who did Europeans enslave before pivoting to Africa for their labor exploitation?
Instructions:
You are to write an original paper based in the course readings and our class discussions. Your paper is to be at least 5 – 7 pages, but if you need to write more, you may. Be sure to state your THESIS statement clearly, and underline it in your paper. You are to write footnotes, NOT endnotes, and you are to include a Bibliography citing your sources.
Style Guide:
You are to use the “Kate Turabian Style Guide.” I have attached 2 (two) examples of that guide to this email, and ample examples exist online. If you do not use the Turabian style method for your footnotes and bibliography, points will be deducted from your paper.
Grading Rubric:
I am attaching a quite detailed grading rubric. You should take a look at it in order to think through, beforehand, what constitutes an excellent paper. The rubric makes it quite clear what distinguishes an “excellent” paper from a “good” paper, and a good paper from a “marginal” one, and what constitutes a failed, or “unacceptable” paper. I reiterate the syllabus when I stress that you should be doing your own work—this is not a collaborative assignment, and the use of any form of AI or Learned Language Model (LLM) is not allowed and is considered plagiarism.
Add Me as an Editor:
I have asked that you add me as an “Editor” to your document before you begin writing the document. If you submit a paper to which I do not have full access from the beginning, then you will be asked to write an alternate paper on an alternate topic, with me added as the editor. My Gmail address is : *************** If you have any trouble adding me as an editor, shoot me an email.
Due-Date:
Your paper is to be turned in by midnight (12:00 am), Wednesday, February 26, so that I have them before Thursday’s class. If you need an extension, just shoot me an email and let me know what you can do. You’ve got this! … Just be original, demonstrate your arguments, and then back them up with some well-written footnotes.
