The three sources, in different ways, address how people can speak across divides and to better seek understanding of issues from people who have different viewpoints. In order to persuade and argue effectively in writing & speaking, it is important to know how to seek understanding, even if one’s opinion may change little or not at all.
For this short narrative essay I would like you to create an essay having something to do with one of the following:
a. a time you changed your mind about something after sharing ideas with someone, or a time you helped another person change their mind about something
b. a time you wish that you and a valued friend or loved one could have seen eye-to-eye–or at least, each could have understood the other person’s perspective better
c. if you can’t think of a personal narrative story to describe here, you can write about why it is or is not important to be curious about multiple viewpoints, even when feeling certain about an idea. Share a specific issue about which people should be informed about and understand more than one perspective.
d. it should be a 500+ word essay
—reference the source you choose clearly–use at least 2 quotes from at least one of the sources. Remember to connect the quote with your ideas–explain it & why it is important to your point.
