- Summarizing Literature on Two Disabilities and Sharing Information with Fictitious Families/Teachers (30 points) Due Week 7. You will receive 3 different profiles. Select two.
In the next few weeks, two children newly diagnosed with special needs will begin attending your school/district. Your CST director has told you that Child A has a diagnosis of _____________ and Child B has a diagnosis of _______________ . (You will have three case studies of children diagnosed with either ASD with Fragile X, or Emotional Disturbance, or Cerebral Palsy. Select TWO of the case studies for Assignment 5.) To best prepare yourself, teachers, and their families, please write a paper (typed, double-spaced, 12 font, and independently working) that includes all of the following:

- Thinking of general supports/strengths/needs (not specific to the child’s diagnosis), complete the following:
- list at least 2 specific things you will aim to do/keep in mind to successfully interact with and empower Child A’s family and teacher. Be clear in describing how each recommendation aligns with particular comments written in these case studies
- list at least 2 specific things you will aim to do/keep in mind to successfully interact with and empower Child B’s family and teacher. Be clear in describing how each recommendation aligns with particular comments written in these case studies.

- One of the suggestions must be technology specific (not, as an example, graphic organizers but rather specific e.g. Edmark Digital Reading Program (2 points)
3. Literature Review on Disability Characteristics (25 points total):
- Literature on Child A’s Diagnosis (Max: 5 points): Using Rowan’s library database, select at least 2-3 peer-reviewed journal articles on this diagnosis and one credible web-based organization unique to Child A’s diagnosis. Write 2 or 3 pages summarizing key insights on the following: (a) prevalence rates and way(s) it is diagnosed (2 points); (b) common characteristics and developmental domain(s) that may be affected, with specific examples (2 points); (c) potential long-term prognosis/outcomes (2 points); and (d) at least 4 specific suggestions from researchers for educators to help children with this diagnosis.
- Be sure to use the required number/type of sources, clear topic sentences, and content that is meaningful/appropriate The details in this portion should be written using a formal/professional tone (e.g., consider that your response is intended for your professor or CST Director).
- Explain Key Details to Child A’s Family (Max 5 points): Based on the detailed summary you wrote, and in light of the assigned information on Child A’s family, create a tailored mock script of 2-3 paragraphs on exactly what you would say to Child A’s primary caregiver(s) in culturally sensitive, laymen, non-technical terms. Avoid using acronyms. Your script should help them (a) understand at least 3 key aspects or characteristics of their child’s diagnosis (based on what you found in the literature) (2 points) and (b) get a clearer sense of at least 3 specific, practical things they could say/do to help their child (provide some specific examples within their natural/home environment) (3 points).
- Literature on Child B’s Diagnosis (Max 5 points): Using at least 2-3 peer-reviewed journal articles on this diagnosis and one credible web-based organization unique to Child B’s diagnosis, write at least 2 or 3 pages summarizing key insights on the following: (a) prevalence rates and way(s) it is diagnosed (2 points); (b) common characteristics and developmental domain(s) that may be affected, with specific examples (2 points); (c) potential long-term prognosis/outcomes (2 points); and (d) at least 4 specific suggestions from researchers for educators to help children with this diagnosis (2 points) .
