For this project, you will write a 4-6 page paper that analyzes, explains, and attempts to solve a problem or controversy in a career field you are interested in. Your paper will be based on research, will include some of your own opinions and positions, and will use evidence to support your conclusions/solutions to the problems you discuss.
First, select a career field to explore. You can be as general or as specific as you want. For instance, you might choose a broad category of career, like agriculture. Or, you can choose a very specific position within that career field, like a seed genetics specialist.
Next, research to identify something in that career field that is considered controversial or debated, either by folks who work in the field or by the general population. It works best if you identify a problem of some kind in the career field that you can recommend a solution for.
Then, plan and draft your paper. It should:
– Define the problem or controversial issue about the career field in detail.
– Explain the causes for the problem or the reasons the issue is controversial.
– Present the multiple viewpoints or positions commonly held by people on the issue.
– State and defend your solution to the problem or your position on the issue.
– Support your position with evidence gathered from sound logic and/or reliable sources.
Once finished, your paper should:
– include all the information listed above.
– include an introduction paragraph, at least four body paragraphs, and a conclusion. – include a Works Cited page with MLA-style citations for all sources used.
– be typed, double-spaced in size 12 Times New Roman font.
– be 4-6 pages in length, not counting the Works Cited page.
– be turned in to your supervising teacher/proctor according to their stated deadline
