Students should find a total of 10 additional articles or credible academic sources (books are included in this) that align with their research topic. Eight (8) of the sources should be in support of your topic, and two (2) of the sources should juxtapose your topic or provide an alternative perspective. The annotated bibliography should be structured in the following way: An APA formatted Title Page: (Page 1), which should be centered. Page 1: Title of Final Research Topic: Annotated Bibliography

(This should be the title and the running header)

The information below should be included and should be centered as well:

Pages: 2-8: The following format will be used to complete your annotated bibliography:

In your annotation, summarize the main points of the source. Be sure to summarize the main points using your own words. Do not copy and paste information directly from the source. Also, explain how the source is relevant to your paper.

Explain how this particular source will help you develop one or more of the main points in your essay.

    • What theories, if any, are mentioned in the article? Theories are “perspectives” or “lenses” used to view a concept, event,

or even people and their actions. An example of a theoretical lens is a Pan Africanist/Separatist theory approach state, that African Americans and those from the African Diaspora should return to the “Motherland” of Africa to reclaim their heritage and to absorb and assimilate into the culture of Africa. The Assimilationist/Integrationist theorist would say, that African,

and African Americans should assimilate and learn how to work with and within the systems to create opportunities to co-exist without compromising their identity. They would also state that there is a need to foster environments where Africans and those who are descendants of the Diaspora should have a place in society where their culture and heritage are celebrated and acknowledged equally and equitably.

  • How did they collect their data for this piece of literature?
    • Did the researchers use a survey or a method they created (this is called primary data collection)?
    • Did they get their data from a source like Pew Research or get statistics from the government (this is called secondary data collection?
  • Is this a chronological, thematic, or methodological study?
    • What is a chronological approach? (chronological order defined as Was this a study that was done over some time in chronological order (from 1955-1967 or from May 2023-October 2024),
    • What is a thematic approach? (Thematic study is a theme of “women in power” or poverty in rural areas across the globe)
    • What is a methodological approach? The “method” could be anything from conducting surveys to analyzing existing data, depending on the research question. Was the information collected using a survey, secondary or primary data, and was the information collected using interviews? It is possible that a study could have a combination of chronological and method data collection. Make sure to explain which type of study you are reading about.

Page 9-10: Find two articles that juxtapose (go against your research topic) and include those two articles in your annotated bibliography.
