My topic is based on my thesis: using the Washington National Conference as a subject for my literature review and how it set the stage for Rear Admiral William S. Benson of the U.S. Navy and Admiral Katō Tomosaburō, leading the Japanese delegation, to reveal how their differing visions of naval power, national interest, and Pacific security ultimately sowed the seeds of discord that contributed to the breakdown of peace in the region, and ultimately the start of the War.I have attached the my litreview, bibliography, and the sample that was provided in the classroom.
These are the classroom instructions: An essential aspect of historical scholarship is a deep understanding of the historiography of the topic. One way to gain facility with our secondary sources is by compiling literature reviews, sometimes called annotated bibliographies.
This assignment is the first step toward constructing your final research paper. You should pick a topic on World War II which interests you and prepare a review of the available literature.
I would urge you, in the strongest terms, to expand your horizons. Do not stick to the popular topics that are “done to death.” Investigate a lesser-known individual, event, or operation, or look at non-combatant issues such as industrial production or behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts.
For our purposes, a literature review is an essay in which we include the author(s) and titles of at least (8) eight secondary sources that are important to the chosen topic, discuss the thesis and main points of each work, and let the reader know how, if at all, the work impacted scholarship of the topic.
The essay should discuss a minimum of 8 secondary sources: monographs and/or scholarly articles. This is not a list, but a well-composed narrative in which a paragraph—perhaps two— ( not one or two sentences) is devoted to each monograph or journal article.
The transition between paragraphs is important, as are grammar and composition. The review must have an attached bibliography (Chicago Manual of Style format) which includes all of the sources discussed in the essay as well as other material which you may have used.
The essay should be between five and seven pages long, not counting the bibliography.
