The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?I have had many obstacles on my journey to bettering my education such as having a learning disability that I used to let hold me back in my schooling. I almost gave up on furthing my education after struggling with school. I ost my father when I was 8 and I did not do well in school after that happened. I really had to be pushed to do my assignments and soon after I was diagnosed with a learning disability and severe ADHD. When I was in high school my mother moved me from Knoxville, TN to San Diego, CA and I did not continue high school after I moved. Later, I decided to do some continuing education classes to be able to take and pass my GED. After multiple attempts at the math portion I had finally passed. I held my GED by itself well into my 20’s and finally decided in 2020 to pursue my dreams of becoming a forensic and neuropsychologist. I enrolled in a local community college in San Diego doing online classes and I loved every minute of it. My biggest struggle was math and I ended up passing my statistics class. I got married and have had financial struggles along my journey and mental health struggles that caused me to take a break for a couple of semesters. I went back into classes when I got healthy and my husband and I decided to move across country back home to Knoxville, TN. My classes were all online so while we were driving across country with all of our belongings, our Pitbull, Doberman and our cat all in our car I was still in my virtual classes. It was very challenging having to balance trying to find an apartment or house for us and staying in a hotel while doing so and still attending all of my Zoom classes, but I put my everything into furthering my education. I’ve since been staying on top of my studies and my grades. I’ve had multiple family members that have graduated from UTK and it has been a lifelong goal to attend and graduate from UTK.
