Instructions: For this assignment #5, you will compose a letter about a topic related to your major (exercise science) and career path (chiropractor/ or physical therapist <you can pick either one> ) interests. The letter should reflect the genres that were explored in the learning unit and may take one of the following forms: 

  • Letter to an editor of a newspaper 

  • Letter to a leader in a company, organization, or other institution 

  • Letter to an elected official  

Consider the following questions prior to composing the letter. These questions will be explored throughout the unit learning activities: 

  • What have you learned about your selected topic throughout the unit? 

  • What is your motivation for writing the letter? 

  • Who will you write to and why?  

  • What do you need to know about the person or organization before writing? 

  • Will you address the issue from a community, local, state or national level?  

  • Will you include individual stories, research in the form of data and facts, or a combination to convince your audience?  

  • Will you propose a plan to resolve or reduce the negative impacts of that issue? If so, consider the complexity of the issue and the various communities that are impacted 

Criteria: 

  • Length: 750-1000 words 

  • Style: Letter format 

  • Content Development: Include an introduction, conclusion and a minimum of three body paragraphs 

  • Source Integration: 

  • Research and integrate at least four sources  

  • Include MLA style in-text citations in all sentences with information from a source 

  • Include an MLA style Works Cited page at the end of the essay (not included in word count minimum)
