See attached rubric and instructions
The assignment has 3 parts in one WORD document – 2 charts and one reflective response. Make sure that your charts
are in the portrait view or Blackboard will not accept your assignment
1. Chart I – Typical Patterns of Development. Using a variety of research sources including the Centers for Disease
Control website, create a chart outlining the patterns of development during each period time.
http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/childdevelopment/facts.html
Outline the typical patterns of development for the following periods:
• Infancy (covering birth to age two),
• Early Childhood (covering ages two to seven),
• Middle Childhood (covering ages seven to eleven), and
• Adolescence (covering ages eleven to twenty-two)
For each of the four periods above, report patterns of development in the following areas:
• physical
• psychomotor
• cognitive
• linguistic
• emotional development
You may work in a group with other class members to complete this portion of the assignment. Each student must submit
their own assignment, identifying other class members who contributed to this portion of the assignment.
2. Chart 2 – Outline the characteristics of children found eligible under each disability category.
Refer to the VDOE website listed below to assist with the completion of the chart. The chart should include the
disability, definition of the disability, criteria for services, and characteristics of the disability. Regulations Governing
Special Education Programs for Children with Disabilities in Virginia recognize 14 disabilities.

3. Write a reflective response discussing the need for differentiation and specially designed instruction for students with
disabilities to access the general curriculum.
• Provide an example of how one academic activity (math, reading, or writing) could integrate specially designed
instruction to meet the needs of two students with disabilities who were found eligible under different disability
classifications.
• Provide an example of how the use of a tablet (or other portable technology), an app on a Chromebook, a website,
or other form of technology can support the differentiation of an additional academic activity (math, reading, or
writing) to meet the needs of two students.
• Address primarily cognitive and linguistic development.
• Share (as part of a reflective conclusion) how you have grown professionally through this assignment. How has it
helped to refine your practices?
• What have you learned about how patterns of development and characteristics of disabilities may impact teaching & learning
