this is  some background and context research

Koh Pha ngan, located in the Gulf of Thailand, has emerged as a prominent destination for international tourists seeking sun, sand, and vibrant cultural experiences. The island’s economy heavily relies on tourism, making it imperative to strike a balance between economic prosperity and environmental preservation. The pristine beaches, lush forests, and diverse marine life that attract tourists also face the challenges of plastic pollution, habitat degradation, and the strain on local resources due to the influx of visitors.

In recent years, there has been a global shift towards sustainable tourism practices, aiming to minimize the negative impact of tourism on the environment and local communities. Koh Phangan, with its unique ecosystem and rich cultural heritage, stands as a case study for understanding how tourists engage with sustainable practices. The island’s delicate balance between catering to the demands of a growing number of tourists and conserving its natural and cultural treasures necessitates an in-depth analysis of tourists’ behavior.

This research is contextualized within the larger global movement towards sustainable tourism, emphasizing the critical role of tourists in ensuring the long-term viability of destinations like Koh Phangan. By exploring tourists’ attitudes, knowledge levels, and behaviors towards sustainable practices, this study aims to provide nuanced insights into the factors that drive or hinder the adoption of eco-friendly choices among visitors. Understanding the dynamics of tourists’ behavior is pivotal for shaping targeted interventions, policy formulations, and awareness campaigns that encourage sustainable tourism in Koh Phangan and similar destinations worldwide.
