For this assignment, you will imagine you’ve been invited to conduct training on risk assessment tools at a location. You will be going to a school, police dept, lawyers’ office, meeting with clinicians, or to meet with jail officials or probation, who want support on how to assess a specific type of risk or threat assessment. In order to do that, you will need to illustrate generally how risk assessment works and then give an in-depth overview of how that is done for your specific area (arson, sexual risk, violence risk, threat assessment, intimate partner violence, stalking, workplace violence). This should include information about why assessing this area is important (i.e. prevalence rates of this type of crime and how this applies to your audience), risk and protective factors related to the area, and different ways assessment can occur. You will then explain at least 2 instruments specifically appropriate to the assessment of risk related to your area. This should include who the instrument is used for (age, gender, offender status), how it is utilized (interview? Record review? Who can use it?), and what data can be gleaned from the use of the instrument (is it predictive? How is the reliability? Does it give you a risk level to consider?). Finally, you will provide an overall summary and conclusions on the utility, reliability, and validity of the current state of this field of risk, including any areas where your audience should use caution related to concerns in the research or how to apply the tools, particularly as it relates to competency and ethics in practice. Support your training using the scholarly references from the course materials as well as any additional scholarly references relevant to your topic. Your presentation should include the following:
You will also need to be sure to include a notes section for each slide (with appropriate in-text citations) which you will use as your speaker notes for audio recordings on each slide. On the slides, you will want to present visually appealing information and bullet-point information for the viewer to take in, while the notes section will be more like a small paragraph that will explain each slide more in-depth and be used as your transcript for speaking. Length: 8-12 content slides (this does not include the title and reference slides), PPT presentation, 200-300 words per slide (in the notes section) References: Include a minimum of 10 scholarly references. The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards, and adhere to the Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
