8.2 Presentation: Accident Research- Aircraft Operation, Maintenance, and Inspection Issues

For this activity, you will pick one of the following accidents related to aircraft operation, maintenance, and inspection issues:

This presentation will explore aircraft operation or maintenance/inspection flaws, often involving errors or faulty assumptions during the operation or maintenance process. Feel free to explore each of the accident descriptions to help you decide if there is a particular accident you wish to study over the other two. As you study and research the accident you chose, be sensitive to discover what the flaws, errors, and faulty assumptions were.

Please use appropriate figures and graphs to complete this assignment. Use data and analyze research findings to support the information you are providing in your presentation. The presentation will discuss the analysis conducted in determining several factors that are common to most accident events, such as causal factors (primary and contributory), mechanical and structural factors involved, individual human factors, and organizational factors that may have played a role, outcomes from the accident, and any risk mitigation or reduction to prevent future occurrences of another accident.

Again, this site and its database hold a wealth of data and useful information about these case study analyses of this course. Use this case study to become acquainted with the information and resource layout on the FAA website. Graphics, actual documents, and final accident reports are all included in the accidents provided in this database, which makes it a great starting point. Try to be as specific as you can while expressing your analysis in your own words, so try to limit your use of jargon.

Note: The links provided herein should serve as a starting point for your research and are not intended to be the only stop to your detailed analysis. You are encouraged to review the final accident report and other records and other sources, too (i.e., the Hunt Library).

Instructions

Prepare a narrated presentation to examine your selected accident and what actions were taken to prevent further occurrences. Include a slide discussing a brief summary, from your viewpoint, of any management actions (or inactions) that may have prevented the accident, such as hazard elimination, risk reduction or mitigation, etc. If you believe this accident was unavoidable, explain why.

Your presentation should be between 5–8 minutes in length. The slides accompanying your video should include the following: title, agenda, 4–6 slides discussing your topic, conclusions slide, and your references.

Note: Be sure to include 4-6 proper APA 7th edition citations and references, as applicable.
