NOTE (MAKE SURE TO READ):

1) This is not a traditional essay.  Make sure to follow the format indicated in the prompt/sample/video.  There are 10 points for organization/grammar, you will automatically lose all 10 if you do not follow the proper format.
2) Your second section requires at least one scientific citation.  Your textbook is likely the easiest and best option for you on this assignment.  You can use other sources, but be absolutely sure that they are scientific.  Random blogs and webpages online do not count.  If you are unsure if your source is scientific or not you can always email me and ask for confirmation.
3) No quotes are allowed.  You must paraphrase everything into your own words.  Be very mindful of plagiarism, as it will result in an automatic zero on the assignment.  If this occurs, you cannot redo the assignment or make it up, so be very careful.
4) I want to repeat:  no quotes are allowed.  Everything should be re-written using your own words.  The only exception is if you are quoting something from a personal experience, for example something you said (or a friend/family member).  Anything that has to do with the Psychology should be paraphrased and cited/referenced.
5) You are responsible for making sure the file you upload is exactly the way that you want it to be.  Do not wait until 11:58 p.m. on the day it is due to try to upload (I recommend no later than 11:55 p.m. just to be sure).  After you upload your file, check it to make sure it uploaded properly, because whatever you upload is what is going to be graded.
6) Do not wait until the last minute to get started on this.  Start early and ask questions!
7) The Psychology concept you choose must be something that we covered in class. Also, as noted in the sample paper, you cannot use Vygotsky as your concept. If you choose a concept not covered in class or use Vygotsky, it will be an automatic zero for the paper.

Grading Rubric:

• 10 points – Organization/Grammar
  • note: if you do not follow the format indicated in the prompt/video/sample this is an automatic 0/10
• 30 points – Section #1 (Personal Experience)
  • Make sure to give enough detail and relevant information that I have a good understanding of the situation.  The most common reason that people miss points in this section is because they do not give enough detail.  Do not talk about Psychology here, but make sure that your story is connected; by the end of this section I should already be able to guess what psychological concept you are going to apply to your story.
• 30 points – Section #2 (Psychology Mini-Report)
  • Imagine someone has never heard of the concept you are going to describe, make sure you give enough detail and information that they would be able to understand it from reading your paper.  You should have at least one scientific citation in this section, your textbook is likely the best source, and make sure to paraphrase the information into your own words.  Do not talk about yourself or your personal experience here, but make sure your mini-report topic is connected to your story.
• 30 points – Section #3 (Application)
  • Here is where you will combine the first two sections.  Apply the information from section 2 to the story you told in section 1.  Make sure to use specific examples and information from both of the previous sections, you can and should be repeating information here as you combine the info into a new context.  Make sure to review the sample for a good example of what to do (but do not just copy it).

    At least once during this class we have likely talked about something that made you think, “oh! that reminds me of that one time!” or some similar thought.  For this assignment, I am going to ask you to write about one of those experiences, where you apply something you have learned in class to something you have experienced or observed in your own life.  This assignment will cover the entire life-span, and thus, the entire textbook and all chapters.
