This research proposal aims to investigate the challenges and opportunities in adapting existing air traffic control methodologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness of ambulance arrival and departure times at emergency departments.
The efficient management of ambulance arrival and departure times at emergency departments is of critical importance in ensuring timely and effective healthcare delivery. In recent years , there has been an increasing demand for emergency medical services, and this has resulted in more attendances at the emergency department.
With inbound capacity limited by the space within the emergency department, ambulance crews inevitably are delayed in being able to handover their patient so as to be available for the next emergency call. These waits are exceeding several hours and causing significant delays in emergency response times.
