At the conclusion of seminar, each student will have the option to develop a creative project on one selected [but approved] aspect of African Diaspora Studies that we explore/examine this semester. This open-ended project will involve you developing a multimedia project that includes academic sources on a topic with video and audio added for supplemental exploration. Your topics can range from focusing on an idea, i.e., PanAfricanism; Black Internationalism; or on a person [i.e., Shirley Graham Du Bois, Eslanda Robeson, Esther Cooper Jackson etc] to an organization such as, the Black Church; African spirituality; Council on African Affairs or the impact of the Haitian Revolution or the origins of Black Arts Movement or African cultural production such as the role of dance in African descendant experiences in the Americas, etc —these are simply examples].
It would be vital for you to think about this project early and get it approved from me. I will and am available to help you think through a project, but it is essential that you reach out to me to schedule a time and day to chat about it. Always follow the Modules section and syllabus to keep up! But more importantly always check on the announcements page for any adjustment to the course.
