An Account of an Argument, and use of Evidence and Rhetorical Strategies for “The Self as Hero,” Joseph Campbell

I dropped the PDF to the instructions and the PDF to Joeseph Campbell’s “The Self as a

hero”.

1. Write an academic introduction, purpose statement, and conclusion.

 2. Construct an account of Campbell’s argument: major, important, or interesting claims,
supporting claims, and reasons. Identify and discuss Campbell’s most important claim and
how sub-claims support a main claim.
 3. Identify and explain one type of evidence.
 4. Identify and explain two different rhetorical strategies that Campbell uses to engage and
persuade his audience.
 5. Analyze, explain, and discuss how the evidence and rhetorical strategies support claims, how
they establish the Aristotelian appeals, and evaluate the extent to which they would persuade
Campbell’s audience to accept his claims.
 6. Identify, support, and explain who Campbell’s audience is, and explain and discuss the
premise Campbell’s audience must share in order to find the argument convincing and
evidence persuasive. What do they have to know or believe in order to accept his argument?
7. Include specific examples (i. e. quotes) from the texts to support your points.
 8. Use an effective structure that carefully guides the reader from one idea to the next, and
demonstrate the ability to introduce and conclude an academic essay.
 9. Editing thoroughly so that sentences are readable for an academic audience.
 10. MLA Format with a Works Cited page. Minimum five typed pages.
