The evaluation should be a minimum of 2.5 pages and should be double-spaced. It should adhere to the standard essay format (intro, body, conclusion) and be organized into paragraphs with complete sentences. The evaluation should contain one body paragraph of summary only; each body paragraph should contain a criterion that you use to evaluate the work (i.e. plot, acting, writing, etc.).
The essay should meet the following requirements:
- The essay should contain a thesis summing up the dominant impression and evaluation of your work. This is your claim.
- The essay should contain one body paragraph of summary.
- The essay should be organized topically and identify three criteria you are using to evaluate the work. The criteria will be different, depending on the genre and type of work you select. Keep this in mind as you evaluate, and be specific.
- The essay should contain a full introduction with an anecdote or other technique that leads into your subject.
- The essay should contain transitions to link paragraphs.
- The body of your paper should contain examples that support your thesis.
- The essay should contain a conclusion that sums up the person and restates the thesis.
- The essay should be free of grammatical or spelling errors.
- The essay should be told from the third person point of view.
- Remember to use solid arguments to back up your thesis, not merely opinions or sweeping generalities.
- When the thesis is read, your opinion of the work should be easily identifiable. It should also list the criteria that you are going to use to evaluate the work.
- Avoid the common pitfalls associated with beginning essay writing: “In this essay, I am going to discuss…” or “I am going to tell you about…”
