An Investigation into Risk Factors for New-onset Diabetes: Characteristics of the Study Participants by Parents’ Diabetes Status

Please write a paper six (6) to eight (8) pages in length (excluding the title and reference pages) in APA 7th edition style and format. Include at least three (3) up-to-date, peer-reviewed, journal references in your paper.

Please remember to:

  • begin your paper with an introductory paragraph, and
  • bring it to a close with a concluding paragraph

You are a biostatistician who has been assigned to work on an observational study that is designed to investigate risk factors for new-onset diabetes. You have been asked to provide one of the table shells to be used in the analysis plan and the final report for the study entitled:

An Investigation into Risk Factors for New-onset Diabetes: Characteristics of the Study Participants by Parents’ Diabetes Status

Risk factors will be compared between adults with at least one parent with diabetes and adults whose parents are free of diabetes.

Your task is to create a table shell to summarize the results of the investigation. A partially completed table shell has been provided to assist you in this undertaking. The table is in the attachment. Please let me know if you can open it

You have also been provided with the following data:

  • the variable names
  • the units of measurement
  • the statistics used (means, standard deviations, frequencies (n) and relative frequencies (%) used in study (Decide how you would like to present these statistics e.g. you may decide to present means to one decimal place. Make decisions for the other statistics used)
  • notation used to designate P-values for continuous measures based on two-independent samples t test in the table shell
  • notation used to designate p-values for discrete characteristics based on chi-square test of independence in the table shell

SBP = Systolic blood pressure

DBP = diastolic blood pressure

HDL = high density lipoprotein

LDL = low density lipoprotein.

P-values for continuous measures based on two-independent samples t test

p-values for discrete characteristics based on chi-square test of independence

After you have completed the table please continue your report. Please write in detail about each one of the variables. Include in your discussion the type of variable (continuous, discrete), how it was measured and whether the p-value used was based on the two-independent samples t test for continuous measures or based on the chi-square test of independence for discrete characteristics.

Conclude your report by writing about your career as a biostatistician working on observational studies. Include details about where you work, your responsibilities, the skills that you have developed for and the skills that you still need for the enhancement of your career.
