For this assignment, you are going to analyze a pressing educational issue and write an op-ed intended for publication. An Op-Ed is generally a short (450 – 1,000 words) article expressing a strong, informed, and focused opinion or viewpoint on a timely news topic.
Please avoid standardized testing and school uniform because they have been widely criticized and are not directly related to cultural issues we explore in this class. Some topics could be:
Multilingual Education
Gender & sexuality education/LGBTQIA+ curriculum
Culturally responsive classroom management
Teacher preparation for diversity in schools
Disabilities and/or Inclusion
The school to prison pipeline
Ethnic studies in K-12 schools (native Americans, Latinos, African Americans, etc.)

Must focus on a local, regional, or national issue in education relate to culture (meeting the needs of ELL students, revising state standards, racial achievement disparities, gendered experiences in the classroom, religion in schools, English-only instruction laws, etc.)
Use at least 2 contextualized in-text quotes and appropriate APA citations.
