Analyzing Persuasive Techniques in a Commercial, Ad, or Political Video Compare/Contrast

Students will find two commercials, advertisements, or political videos that utilize persuasive techniques (ethos, pathos, logos). One video will be from an older decade or era ex. 1980s,90’s, and compare them to modern commercials. You will analyze these techniques and discuss how they create an emotional response and convey a specific message.

Instructions:

Video Selection:

Choose two commercials, ads, or political videos (e.g., YouTube, social media, TV) demonstrating persuasive communication. (Make sure they are from different eras)
Ensure the video is no longer than 5 minutes.
Include the links to the video in your submission.
Analysis Components:

Ethos: How does the video establish credibility or appeal to authority? Discuss any use of experts, testimonials, or trustworthy figures.
Pathos: What emotional appeal is used? Analyze how the video evokes feelings such as happiness, fear, empathy, or excitement.
Logos: What logical arguments or data are presented? Discuss the video’s use of facts, statistics, or logical reasoning to persuade the viewer.
Emotional Response: Reflect on your personal emotional reaction to the video. How did the techniques make you feel, and why?
Message: What was the underlying message the video was trying to convey? Was it clear, subtle, or misleading?
Submission Format:

Write a 500-700 word essay analyzing both video’s persuasive techniques.
Include the video links at the top of your essay.
Format your essay in 12-point, Times New Roman font, and double-space the text.
