1. Assessment Objective
This assessment aims to deepen students’ understanding of strategic human resource management by analyzing real-world HR processes with a focus on the integration of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) and the implementation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The objective is to enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, enhancing their analytical, research, and strategic thinking skills.
2. Assessment Description
Students will work in teams to select a local UAE based organization and conduct a comprehensive analysis of its HR processes. Teams have the option to focus their study on either how the organization integrates technology and AI into its HR practices OR how it implements and manages DEI initiatives. This project involves research, analysis, and strategic recommendation formulation.
Teams are required to analyze ONE / TWO HR processes. The range of processes provided below allows teams to make selections that best align with their chosen focus area (Technology & AI OR DEI) and the nature of the organization being studied:
-
HR Planning and Analytics: Evaluating the use of data analytics in forecasting HR needs, planning workforce distribution, and the impact of technology or DEI strategies in these areas.
-
Recruitment and Selection: Examining strategies for attracting, selecting, and onboarding talent, including the role of technology/AI or DEI considerations.
-
Training and Development: Analyzing approaches to employee skill enhancement, career development, and the use of technological tools or DEI-aligned training programs.
-
Performance Management: Investigating methods of assessing and managing performance, the integration of AI-driven analytics, or the influence of DEI on performance evaluation practices.
-
Workplace Health and Safety: Examining how the organization ensures the health and safety of its employees, including the use of technology to monitor and improve safety conditions, or how DEI considerations are integrated into safety protocols.
-
Compensation and Benefits: Assessing how the organization structures its compensation and benefits, the role of AI in decision-making, or how these practices reflect DEI principles.
-
Employee Engagement and Wellbeing: Exploring initiatives for employee satisfaction, retention, and wellness, including tech-driven tools or DEI-focused programs.

Research and Analysis: In this phase you must gather information about the company’s HR practices. Conduct thorough research using various methods like interviews, surveys, and review of public information available on company website / other online sources. You must also refer to scholarly literature (books and journal articles) to understand the current best practices for the HR processes you have chosen to analyze.
-
Strategic Recommendations: Develop relevant and actionable recommendations based on your findings and analysis. Your recommendations should be grounded in HR concepts and theoretical frameworks discussed in class.
4. Assessment Deliverables
-
Written Report: Students are required to create a comprehensive report that includes their research findings, analysis, and strategic recommendations. The report must be well-structured, properly referenced using Harvard referencing, and presented in a professional format. A minimum of four scholarly sources (books and peer-reviewed journals) should be included, supplemented by other authentic and relevant materials such as websites, blogs, newspapers, and magazines. The inclusion of current global or regional statistics will significantly enhance the value of the report.
The length of the report is 2,000 – 2500 words, excluding references and appendices. Each team is expected to collaborate and compile their report, with regular updates made throughout the project’s progression.
Peer Contribution Section in the report: Add a table clearly demonstrating the work distribution and individual contributions of all team members (for both the report and presentation task). Also add details on factors such as collaboration, communication, effort, punctuality, and quality of work for each team member.
*Individual marks may be adjusted if there is evidence of inequitable contribution towards the project. Teams not providing this section will lose marks for content component. This section does not count towards the word count.
Use of AI section in the report: Students are permitted to use AI tools like Grammarly for editing and proofreading purposes. However, the core components of the research, including the sourcing of citations and the writing of the report, must be the original work of the students. If AI tools are utilized, students must explicitly state which tool was used and how it contributed to the report.

Presentation: Each team will have 10 – 15 minutes to deliver an engaging presentation that effectively summarizes the key aspects of their analysis, findings, and recommendations. The presentation will be followed by an individual Q&A session where each team member will be asked specific questions about the project. Each member is expected to have knowledge about the complete project and not only the parts that they presented. This session is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their individual understanding and contribution to the project.
