Annotated Bibliography: Evaluating Behavioral Interventions on Reducing Food Aversion and Increasing Food Acceptance in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Applied Research Proposal Topic And Annotated Bibliography

(10% of final grade)

To help students refine their research topic for the final Applied Research Grant Proposal assignment, students will submit their topic and create an annotated bibliography. The topic must be related to disabilities and ABA. The proposed study must be more than a simple replication of a published article. The study must extend the existing literature in some way. The students must select a topic and research questions that can be  addressed  using  one  or  more  single case  experimental  designs  in  the  study  desi Gn. AB  (baseline treatment), correlation, group and other non, single case experimental designs are not acceptable for this assignment. Prior to submitting the annotated bibliography student may suggest more than one topic and let the instructor choose. Proposal topic must be approved by instructor by date specified in course outline. Attention: If your topic is the same or similar to your MA thesis topic or research you have done, or are doing, in the community, please speak to the instructor to allow us to help you avoid academic integrity issues. Some examples of topics lending themselves to single case experimental designs (SCEDs; alternating treatment,  multiple  baseline,  withdrawal,  changing  criterion)  include:  comparison  of  mand  to  verbal imitation training to teach initial language to nonverbal

children with autism; comparison of social stories to video modelling to improve safety skills in preschool children; the effects of sign language training on tantrums and crying in typical infants; comparison of mastery criteria on maintenance outcomes in children with ASD; effects of combining Functional Communication Training (FCT) and sensory integration therapy (SIT) for self injurious behaviour in children with DD; evaluating of stimulus stimulus pairings to increase expressive language in nonverbal children with ASD; the effectiveness of a self management strategy to improve time management of part time Graduate students; graduated versus full exposure of feared situations to treat phobias in persons with traumatic brain injury; effects of positive behaviour support training on

Direct care staff interactions with adults with ID living in group homes; evaluating response cost parameters in relation to challenging behaviour reduction. Often students who are doing ABA work find that their clients’ behaviour and response to treatment often gives ideas as to what kinds of ABA studies are needed. For instance, do behaviour reduction programs work better with medications? Students should include 5 peer reviewed research articles to include in the Annotated Bibliography that they plan to use in the literature review of the final Research Proposal Assignment. Students must review at least three articles from a behaviour analytic journal such as (the Journal of Applied Behaviour Analysis or others with approved SCEDs). Articles reviewed should be primary research, but students can include one Recent literature or systematic review paper. The annotated bibliography (see Resource tab in Brightspace for sample) is also an opportunity for students to critically assess their position as scientist practitioners related to the topic under investigation. As part of the assignment, students will be expected to engage in critical reflection regarding the relevance of their research topic and how increasing their understanding of the topic may improve their professional practice. This reflection should relate to any relevant professional experience and academic experience. Students are encouraged (but not required) to also consider personal experience and values as it pertains to the chosen

Topic. Research Proposal Topic and Annotated Bibliography Rubric Grade Research Topic Identification of an appropriate research topic. Consideration is given to the relevance of this topic for ABA and disabilities and appropriateness for a SCED.

Research Topic Rationale

Why is the topic important to study? (e.g., What is the current status of the literature? How could answers generated by this project benefit service users (i.e., persons with IDD) individually and/or possibly as a clinical population? ) Hints: (1) Consider that you are submitting a project for funding, and you are competing against other excellent projects. Ask yourself, why would a granting agency select your project over other submissions? (2) Content in Chap 3 L & G text will be helpful.

Review of the Research

Provide a summary of at least 5 full references that you plan to use in your literature review.

(Included the following for each article: summary of article (including research design), ~3 main arguments / results, relevance to the topic (prospective use of resource and rating), critical evaluation of the research (strengths & limitations) and quality rating (10 points each article see Chapter 13, p. 189 for sample rigour checklist); include quality ratings on each item in the checklist provided.

Research Questions

What is the study about? What are potential research questions? (Can research questions be appropriately answered using a SCED?  Are research questions phrased appropriately?  Based on literature review, do research questions extend or contribute to new knowledge on the topic?)

Reference list

Uses appropriate APA 7Th Ed. formatting. (Followed APA formatting for headings, in-text citations, writing style and reference list)

There is also a coding part for each article. Do coding first then continue with the article arguements. I will provide you with what I have done so far. Article number 1 can be accessed through the link, however articles 2-5 are through my university password so I copied them for you and added them to a doc. Please ensure not to use online AI for anything. If you think there is anything from my assignment so far you can change it. I will also provide you with a sample my prof has provided with with to follow. Please keep in mind that my english is my second language so I need you to use the simplest words possible. Thank you
