PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED CAREFULLY. PLEASE PROVIDE PHOTO EVIDENCE WHERE EVER REQUIRED. PLEASE USE CHICAGO 17 FOR CITATION.
PLEASE DO NOT USE AI (eg. CHATGPT) AS I HAVE FACED ISSUES WITH ESSAYPRO BEFORE. I have provided an example of a bibliography below.
Writing the annotated bibliography
Once you have started to compile papers you can begin to start writing the annotated bibliography. Each of these steps is done for each of your papers; please see the example posted in the module.
Step One:
Write the bibliographical reference, as you would in any other bibliography. Your citation management tool will create this reference for you to paste into your annotated bibliography.
Step Two:
Write a paragraph that explains the specific contribution this research makes to your understanding of your research topic. This not a summary of the paper or the abstract. Here you should clearly describe how the results of this paper improve our understanding of your topic specifically. This will help you find ways to think about your own research and will be an important piece of text when you write your literature review. Again, do not copy and paste from the paper into this text. If you think you will want to reference specific sections of the paper later you can include screenshots of those sections here.
Step Three:
Answer the series of questions that create a record of the paper’s argument and evidence (below). It is not necessary to completely summarize each paper, just to lay out the elements of the paper that specifically contribute to understanding your research topic. You can include screenshots where you feel you will want more information later.
Here are the suggested questions:
- What is the main hypothesis of this paper?
- What data (if any) is used to test the hypothesis? What is the source of that data? What specific variables are used in the analysis?
- What are the empirical methods (if any) the paper uses and what are the results? (Be specific and include numerical results)
- What conclusions can we draw from these results?
- What do we still have left to learn? How can your research build upon this research?
