Apply strategies learned this week (rhetorical strategies, types of arguments, and reasoning strategies) to the development of a longer argumentative writing project and practice the outlining step in the process of writing

To do this, each student needs to develop a 1-2 page outline for the Essay assignment. The outline must include the following elements:

  • Working thesis that conveys the arguable claim for the paper
  • Four to Five supportive reasons
  • Evidence for each supportive reason
  • Indicate focus of opposition and how it will be addressed

Keep in mind that this assignment is a part of the writing process and therefore I’m not expecting the ideas presented to be finalized. I’ve designed this assignment to allow each student to practice outlining and allow each of you to practice the reciprocal nature of the writing process by allowing me to offer feedback.

To complete the assignment, students need to submit an outline of their essay that indicates where they will be “going” with the essay. If anyone needs assistance with outlining, use the example from chapter 10 on p. 328 of the book as a guide
