Use the ABC (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) method and the Behavior Intervention
Plan (BIP) with a child exhibiting behavioral challenges to identify and develop strategies to promote
positive behaviors.
Description: Use the ABC (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) method and the Behavior Intervention
Plan (BIP) with a child exhibiting behavioral challenges to identify and develop strategies to promote
positive behaviors.
Directions:
PART I: ABC Method and BIP Training
Access the Training: below:
https://iris.peabody.vanderbilt.edu/module/fba/#content
Complete the training on the ABC method.
Answer the questions asked in each section, as well as the assessment at the end of the module,
and include them in your paper. Your responses should be detailed and provide clear examples
from the module to achieve mastery.
PART II: Creation of ABC Data and BIP
1. Identify a Child: In collaboration with your mentor teacher, identify a child manifesting behavioral
challenges in the classroom setting. Describe the child (use a pseudonym, provide age, and classroom
setting) and the rationale for selecting this child.
2. Observe the Child: Observe the child at least twice for a minimum of thirty minutes and note relevant
behavior observed. Proper observations should include the time, date, pseudonym, age of child, and
classroom area where the observation is taking place. Use proper anecdotal record and note-taking
observation forms provided by your instructor. Submit these documents with your assignment. (FEAP 2b)
3. Collect ABC Data:
Record at least five instances of the behavior using the ABC method (Antecedent, Behavior,
Consequence).
Complete the data collection in collaboration with your cooperating teacher. Use a pseudonym for
the child. Provide a copy of the completed paperwork to your teacher. Submit these documents
with your assignment.
4. Develop the BIP:
Based on the ABC data collected, complete the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) in collaboration
with your cooperating teacher. Provide a copy of the completed paperwork to your teacher.
Submit these documents with your assignment. (FEAP 2cdh)
Outline your plan for the implementation of the BIP for the next four weeks.
PART III: Reflection
1. Reflect on Your Learning:
What did you learn about the ABC method as a result of completing the training?
How did the training compare to the actual creation of the ABC data?
What additional information did the ABC data provide that you had not considered?
What were the challenges in writing the ABC data?
What were the challenges in creating the BIP?
What changes in the learning environment were specified to be made to accommodate the child’s
needs?
What expectations for the child’s behavior were included in the BIP?

PART IV: Interview with the School Counselor
1. Schedule an Interview: Arrange a meeting with the school counselor to discuss their role and resources
available for behavior intervention.
2. Prepare Questions: Develop a list of questions to ask the counselor. Include questions about:
Different forms used in the school (e.g., behavior incident reports, intervention forms).
Resources available for behavior support (e.g., counseling services, support groups).
The use of cumulative folders and how they can inform behavior intervention plans.
3. Conduct the Interview:
Take detailed notes during the interview.
Summarize the key points learned from the counselor.
PART V: Final Report
1. Compile Your Findings: Organize your collected ABC data, the behavior intervention plan, and the
insights from the school counselor interview into a comprehensive report.
2. Report Structure:
Introduction: Brief overview of the assignment and objectives.
Behavioral Data: Detailed presentation of the ABC data collected.
Intervention Plan: Description of the behavior intervention plan using the Pyramid Model and
MTSS.
Counselor Interview: Summary of the interview findings and their relevance to your intervention
plan.
Conclusion: Reflection on the process and potential impact on student behavior.
The assignment should be written in an organized, logical, and understandable style with appropriate
mechanics (grammar and syntax) and using APA style citing at least 3 current published references
(published within the last 10 years). Strong papers (those obtaining mastery) must include citations to
support your assertions.
