On the Mecanoo website, one finds a 95-word summary of the office’s intentions, a kind of a manifesto:
Mecanoo combines the disciplines of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture and interior design to produce unorthodox design solutions born from a strong sensitivity to context and a highly interdisciplinary design process. Each project illustrates the four fundamental elements of her architectural vision: People, Place, Purpose, Poetry. She interweaves social, technical, playful and humane aspects together to form a unique solution to each assignment. “Architecture is never a solo act. I like to compare it to directing a symphony orchestra; it’s all about teamwork, about being visionary, sensitive, and supportive at the same time.”
Based on Rich’s talk about Mecanoo’s Bolling Building, and the other resources provided, write a 100-word commentary on how you see these ideas at work. Include which specific architectural moment or aspect of the building best shows Mecanoo’s intent.
If you like, include a diagram which shows what you see.
