Are paragraphs arranged in the most logical order to prove the argument?
Does the essay contain transitional words and phrases that emphasize relationships between ideas?
Does each body paragraph have a topic sentence, at least two supporting points from research, and a closing sentence?
Does each body paragraph contain relevant information from research that effectively supports the main idea?
Is each piece of information from research introduced and integrated effectively?
Does the concluding paragraph reinforce the thesis (without repeating the thesis statement word for word) and briefly summarize the main points that support the thesis? (Note: If your tutor has asked you to write a suggestive concluding paragraph, please follow your tutor’s advice instead. If you’re unsure about your tutor’s preference, please ask.)
Did you ensure that no paragraph ends with a quotation?
Does the essay contain information from no less than four and no more than eight research sources?
Is every research source reputable and reliable?
Are at least three of the research sourced articles from scholarly peer-reviewed journals?
Is there a citation in every sentence that contains information from research, regardless of whether the information is quoted or paraphrased??
Does each citation match the corresponding entry on the Works Cited or References page? Remember: the first word of the citation must match the first word of the corresponding entry.
Is the list of sources formatted correctly? Did you check each entry against an example from the Purdue OWL or another reputable up-to-date source?
Has the essay been edited for style?
Are grammar and mechanics correct?
Is the essay between 1,000 and 1,200 words in length (excluding the list of sources)?
