Battleship PotemkinLinks to an external site. (1925), directed by Sergei Eisenstein

Write a response paper about two-three pages (500-750 words) in length reflecting on a Soviet film chosen from the list below. Your response should situate the film in the context of themes and events discussed in our course.

Consider the film as a primary source – you may want to refer to the “Primary Source Investigation” questions on the last page of the course syllabus. (You don’t have to address the questions specifically in the paper but you can use them to guide your thinking about your film.)

Your paper should have an overall argument – a main point – that explains what the film can tell us about early Soviet history. Your paper should also present specific evidence to support your main point drawn from the film, our course readings, class discussions, and other primary sources we’ve read.
