Based on observations you have made from teachers in your school, you will choose one of three topics that you believe will benefit your teachers the most. You are a leader at a middle school. Describe at least three ways students in Piaget’s formal operations stage are likely to think differently from those in the concrete operations stage. Illustrate each characteristic with a concrete example of how students might think or behave in each of the two stages. Explain the significance of understanding stages of development to the teachers in your school.
You have observed that many of your high school teachers still cling to the lecture method of teaching. You will create a blog in which you describe popular ways to helping students master classroom subject material. Include reciprocal teaching, cooperative learning, class discussion, and meaningful learning to enhance student understanding.
Several of your teachers ask you to help them as they have increasing problems with students remembering what they have been taught. In your blog, describe the basic nature of human memory, including the dual-store model. Give them suggestions on classroom practices that can help their students remember the concepts.
A teacher asks for help with a second-grade student named Margot, who seems to have little or no motivation to learn. The teacher explains that she has observed that Margot doesn’t put much effort into her assignments. Instead, she talks incessantly to the students around her during independent seatwork work.
