For this paper, you will be reading Philip Gourevitch’s We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will be Killed With Our Families: Stories from Rwanda. After reading the book, please write a 2-3-page (12-point font, double-spaced) essay with a strong, clear argument and concisely use evidence from the book to support your main points (make sure to cite). To frame your essay, please address ONE of the following prompts:
- (Prompt 1) What is “modern” about the crime committed in Rwanda? In your response, you can also address the question: how does media technology matter to a genocide (what are the roles that media technology plays), and why?
- 700-1000 words (2-3 pages in a Word document)
- Citations must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, links to an external site.
- The essay must have an argument – this statement explains the essay’s main idea, which will be elaborated upon in the actual essay. Ideally, the argument will have an answer to the prompt, and then, in the body paragraphs, you will give evidence from the book to support your argument in well-organized body paragraphs. It is not enough to say that something happened. It would be best to communicate why and/or how it happened and why this matters.
