“Bridging Cultures: Government of Saskatchewan’s New Initiative to Support Elderly Immigrants”

  • topic proposal: I have a keen interest in the lives of newcomers to Canada, particularly the older generation who often arrive with their younger family members. With the rise in young professional immigrants, we’re seeing more parents and grandparents joining them. Adapting to a new country and culture at an older age comes with its own set of challenges. These elders can feel isolated, especially when their families are out working and providing. This can turn their new homes into places of solitude rather than comfort. My goal with this communication plan is to help them feel supported and connected. I want to show them that life in Canada can be enriching and enjoyable, with opportunities to join classes, clubs, and community activities.

This communication plan will introduce and promote the Government of Saskatchewan’s innovative program, “Bridging Cultures.” This initiative is designed to assist elderly immigrants in Saskatchewan in overcoming the challenges associated with adapting to a new country and culture. The program focuses on providing a supportive and inclusive environment for these individuals, who often face isolation and difficulty in assimilating due to language barriers and cultural differences.

    Literature review requirement:

The final paper is designed to be an academic-based communications plan, which means you will need to front-load the paper with a literature review. In an academic context, literature reviews are a way to summarize all of the currnent thinking and ideas relative to what you are writing about. So, this is the research part of your communications plan.

    What you should pull together:

    • Using the library’s search feature (or google scholar or another source) find articles that are related to your topic, related to your tactics, and related to your ideas to build an argument that outlines why what you are proposing is the best course of action. You are more than welcome to use the readings from the class, but not *only* those.
    • Your goal should be *at least* 15 academic articles in your reference list. You can also add 2-3 popular sources (from magazines or news etc) if it helps enhance the argument you are making.

Think of this as the first half of your final paper. Write an intro, and then use subheads as you see fit.

This literature review should be around 2000 words, or around 8 pages double spaced (250 words per double spaced page), not including your references. If you are a bit under or a bit over, that’s fine – this is suggested as a guide.
