Building Inclusive Classrooms: ABA Strategies and Legislative Support for Students with Diverse Needs

create a 6–8 slide team PowerPoint presentation for a personal development day on how applied behavior analysis strategies can be implemented in the school setting and the importance of legislation that supports individuals with disabilities.

Scenario: You are a BCaBA in a large school district and currently work as the lead behavioral specialist. You and your team of behavior specialists have been asked to present to faculty in your school district for a personal development day. Specifically, the district has asked you to speak on the following items:

  1. Describe the components of the IDEIA 2004 (Free Appropriate Public Education, Least-Restrictive Environment, Early Intervention, Extended School Year and the ESSA 2015) and how these support individuals with disabilities. Include the definition of a disability and an explanation of what qualifies individuals for this legislation.
  2. Explain how to implement ABA strategies in the classroom setting including positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, motivating operations, group contingencies, operant conditioning, and preference assessments.
  3. Discuss how to utilize culturally sensitive strategies to promote daily engagement and set students up for success.
  • Include an explanation of the following:
    • A cultural diversity program for the classroom
    • Increasing understanding of, and application for, cultural diversity
    • Family and parent engagement in a cultural diversity program

Be sure to write your information in a way that can be easily understood. Examples are encouraged when explaining topics.

Your 6-8 slide PowerPoint presentation should include the following elements:

  • Title slide: Include the names of the team members, title of assignment, course and section number, and date.
  • Content slides: Answer all the questions, reflecting appropriate personal and professional insights.
    • The assignment must be written in Standard English and demonstrate superior organization, including a highly developed viewpoint and purpose. Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct, accurate, and reflect knowledge of skills and practice in applied behavior analysis.
    • Presentations are visual; therefore, use clear, concise bullet points and avoid crowded slides. You may include the use of graphics and SmartArt to streamline information in a memorable manner. Additionally, images and diagrams are wonderful presentation tools, but be sure to include all required citations. Please review the Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations resource for tips and suggestions. Submissions must be in .pptx format and no larger than 40 MB.
    • Note: Visual effects and some dark-colored themes, such as Slate, may prevent Turnitin from fully processing a PowerPoint file and, consequently, from generating a Similarity Report. Review the file requirements to ensure a report will be generated.
  • Reference slide: Sources listed in current APA format.
    • Include a minimum of two scholarly or academic sources to support your responses and conclusions.
  • Use Arial or Times New Roman 24-point font.
  • Use current APA formatting and citation style.
    • Please use this helpful video resource, APA Style Formatting in PowerPoint, to format a PowerPoint by applying current APA style to a title slide; body slides using bullet points, figures, tables, and copyright statements; and a reference list with hanging indentations.
