Directions:

  • Below please find directions for sections of the Business Research Portfolio.
  • Please use our textbook as a guide: Chapter 29 Links to an external site.
  • Please see A Sample Report at the bottom of the screen.
  • You may have to click on READ to view the report.
  • Will will write only selected parts of a business report. The requirements are listed below.
  • Everything in the Business Research Portfolio is written in Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced.
  • Please refer to Canvas/Pages/Writing Points 4 for guidelines about APA and documentation.
  • Only 2 direct quotations can be used in the Business Research Portfolio. Use paraphrased information.
  • Advice: Write the Discussion (Body Paragraphs) first.
  • Then write the Introduction and Conclusion.
  • Last, write the Summary

Summary

  • Use Roman numeral i as the page number for this page.
  • Write the summary after you finish writing the Discussion (Body Paragraphs).
  • The summary is one page, and it is on its own page.
  • The summary is a condensed section that gives an entire overview of the report.
  • Do not include sources (citations, documentation).
  • If you have any recommendations for action, include them in this section.

Business Portfolio Introduction

  • The Business Portfolio Introduction starts on a new page.
  • Insert a page number. This will be page one (1)  in the upper right of the document. Here are some videos to help you: Add page numbers, Microsoft WordLinks to an external site.
  • Video: Insert page number, Google DocsLinks to an external site.
  • Write the word Introduction in bold type at the top of the page on the left-hand margin.
  • The Business Portfolio Introduction is different from a traditional one-paragraph essay introduction.
  • The Business Portfolio Introduction can have more than one paragraph. For this project, it should be one page long.
  • Introduce the report.
  • Tell why this report was written.
  • Describe any background you find necessary (optional)
  • Describe the topic you are writing about.
  • If you use quoted or paraphrased information, you must provide a citation for this information.

Discussion (Body Paragraphs):

  • Page numbers will continue in the upper right of the document.
  • This section will continue immediately after the Introduction. It does not begin on a new page.
  • For this paper, you will have 3-5 headings which discuss different aspects of your report.
  • Insert one of your headings. Write it in bold type on the left-hand margin.
  • The discussion section is 3-4 pages long, double-spaced.
  • Use at least 4 sources to write these body paragraphs.
  • You may write the paragraphs using APA narrative citation style.
  • If you prefer to use APA parenthetical citation style, you may look at Writing Points 4 for guidelines.
  • Every paragraph in this section must include a citation, whether you use a direct quotation or paraphrased information.
  • Create 3-5 headings to separate main ideas that you discuss.
  • All heading titles are in bold type on the left-hand margin.
  • For headings, use Times New Roman, 12-point.
  • Major words in heading titles are capitalized. (This is called title case capitalization.)

Conclusion:

  • The conclusion continues after the discussion. It does not begin on a new page.
  • Page numbers continue in the upper right of the document.
  • Write the heading Conclusion on the margin in bold type.
  • The conclusion should be one long paragraph, around seven sentences.
  • Do not use quotations or citations in the conclusion.
  • Summarize the main ideas of your report in the same order as you wrote about them.
  • Do not bring up new ideas in the conclusion.
  • Do not tell the reader what to do in the conclusion or give  recommendations for further action.

Citations for four sources:

  • Copy the citations you submitted for the Citations for Four Sources assignment to the bottom of this document.
  • If the sources that you submitted for the Citations for Four Sources assignment do not match the sources listed in the reference page, write a short explanation about why they do not match.
