Share your findings in a post, preferably with a picture and/or a link, and a 250-word discussion. Your example could be an explicit representation of the Greek hero (Disney’s Hercules, for example, or a modern sculpture representing Herakles himself), or a figure/concept that is based on the idea that Herakles represents (the übermensch archetype – the most obvious example, Superman!) Same goes with other heroes, just keep in mind what their most characteristic traits are.
Feel free to choose a literary work, graphic novel, meme, TV series or film, contemporary artwork, maybe even a historical individual (does a particular athlete remind you of Herakles’ character?) – or, more abstractly, perhaps you see a social phenomenon. I want you to exercise your creativity, imagination, and web-browsing skills to come up with an example of a Greek hero’s presence in modern society. You can all see each other’s posts, so feel free to find inspiration in your peers’ ideas. If you have something exceptionally insightful to say about Disney’s Hercules, by all means, go ahead; but let’s not be too obvious! I don’t want to see 50 reflections on Disney’s retelling of the myth, however charming it may be. And remember, your example doesn’t have to explicitly feature a certain Greek hero – as long as you can make a clear connection to the ideas that he represents.
NB1. Please post your findings as a New “Question” under this assignment heading (and be creative about how to make the title sound like a question).
