Organization and Content (25 points) – Clearly introduces thesis at the beginning of the presentation – States outline of presentation to give general pathway to audience – Order of topics is logical and presents a good flow – Topics are well-researched and use mostly primary sources
Arguments are well-reasoned and indicate a deep, personal understanding of the material Delivery (25 points) – Presentation is well-prepared/rehearsed with few moments of hedging (extended pauses or uncertainty about what to say next) – Points are stated with clarity and ease – Pacing of subject matter reflects an awareness of both the relative importance of each topic and the amount of time that has passed during the presentation
Performance Examples (15 points) – Examples are strategically chosen to demonstrate specific points made in the presentation – The significance of each example is verbally highlighted and clearly related back to the topic at hand Q and A (10 points) – Prepared to answer questions that extend beyond what is shared during the presentation – Demonstrates an ability to analyze and/or think critically on the spot Musical Performance (25 points) – Well-rehearsed – Clear interpretation – Adequately prepared (no significant intonation issues or technical mistakes)
Lecture Recital. In lieu of a final exam, you will present a 30-minute lecture recital to a panel of three faculty members. There are no specific topic requirements except that it must be narrow enough that you can explore it deeply in your allotted time. You will spend the first 20 to 25 minutes presenting your topic and playing specific examples to clarify your thesis. You will use the remainder of your time to perform the work/s in their entirety. As such, be sure to select music that is between 5 and 10 minutes in length.
