I want the contentious issue to be protesting (specifically about Gaza, Palestine in London) and looked at the way protest was organised (grassroots activism, civil society groups; events, marches) and managed (e.g. permitted, policed, surveillance), particularly given some of the intense controversy around this (e.g. national party politics; far-right groups; etc).


The essay must: 
– demonstrate an in-depth understanding of ideas and concepts with the use of urban scholars (Sharon Zukin, Mike Davis etc) 
 – engage directly with the required readings and lecture material. 
– go beyond summarising existing work. Rather, apply ideas and concepts to your own examples. 
– extend, challenge or refine existing debate where possible.
– Focus on the craft of good writing. Be clear, provide rich descriptions, proof-read carefully.

– it must be above 75% in grading.
