In 3-4 pages of exploratory writing I’d like you to practice what we did in class today, this time on your own with the three essays you have chosen from above—what are the writers trying to get their readers to consider? What concepts, questions, and thinking puzzles do they propose for us to grapple with? Where do these writers take us? Do they offer any strategies for negotiating their problems and questions? This is still NOT formal summary or representation work for an outside reader. We are trying to read as deeply as possible into the writer’s intellectual problem before we move to compose for an outside reader. If you would like to include some rich quotations for the texts to help you, great! Also, and this is important: DO NOT YET MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE TEXTS , just take them up one at a time, separating them in the same document by a section heading or finding another way to transition between them. I promise we will be building some bridges between texts, but not yet. For now enjoy diving as deeply as possible into the world of each work. I attached three essays that I chose.
