    1. Using any (one) concept from chapter 1 in our textbook, identify a mediated example that illustrates the concept. Mediated (media) examples are images, video clips, memes, gifs, social media posts (screenshots) etc. You can use Google images, your social media accounts, giffy, YouTube, etc. to find your example. Provide a link or insert the example. Then debrief the example. AKA Explain the image in general. Define the concept. Explain how the example illustrates the concept. Discuss how the concept can be applied to your life and how the example relates to and/or impacts you.
    2. What cultural identity do you identify with? What are some of the shared rituals (or language or collective memory, etc.) that are regularly practiced and have special significance in your culture? How does this cultural identity affect your understanding and performance of self-concept?
    3. Think about a conversation (communication episode) you have participated in recently. Identify and define/describe the five stages of listening using this conversation as an example. Give an example of a problem that you encountered at one of the stages and provide a solution for overcoming it.
    4. Inclusive language allows a speaker to connect with his/her listeners. Define/explain the three different types of biased language and give an example of each type. Then, take those examples and explain how to make them unbiased. Explain why we should not use biased language and describe the effects of biased language on communication.
    5. Throughout Chapter 6, culture has been a major fact in determining the correct interpretation of nonverbal behaviors. Define proxemics and describe an example that illustrates distinct cultural differences in proxemics. Define emblems and describe an example that illustrates distinct cultural differences in emblems.
