I believe that people of minority status are more likely to suffer from depression. This is because they are given less control and are faced with discrimination in comparison to the majority group. These people are often times looked down upon as well. These factors can lead to lower self-esteem, stress, and the feeling of helplessness. There are many different causes to depression, but some include trauma, prolonged stress, as well as many medical conditions. Treatments to depression sometimes involve lifestyle changes, therapy, and medications.
People commit suicide for a wide array of social factors. Many times people have suicidal thoughts when they do not feel like they fit into a certain social environment. They may feel like people around them don’t like them and feel unwanted. Other times, people may commit suicide when feeling like they are under an intense amount of pressure from many different societal factors all at the same time. Coping with suicide takes a lot of effort and patience. This involves reaching out for help as well as educating the larger community on this issue. Suicide is an issue beyond just a singular person. It is making sure everyone has a support system they know they can rely on in times of need.
