I have read the book but do not have the time to write a
review of it. Please see below the blurb I wrote before reading the book.
Initial blurb:
“I have selected to read the book, Climate Change Is
Racist: Race, Privilege and the Struggle for Climate Justice by Jeremy
Williams. (Jeremy Williams 2021. Climate
Change Is Racist Race, Privilege and the Struggle for Climate Justice.) The
book is written by Jeremy Williams, Jeremy Williams writes serious books for
adults, and less serious books for children. He grew up in Madagascar and Kenya
and moved back to Britain on completing high school. He went on to study
journalism, international relations and cultural studies, and now lives in
Luton, UK.
The purpose and approach of this book is summarized,
“Climate Change Is Racist is a significant intervention in climate change
studies and activism. Jeremy Williams crafts an accessible, intersectional
analysis that is essential reading for those seeking to diversify climate
change activism and confront historical, structural racism(s).’” citation:
(Professor Robert Beckford, Director of the Institute for Climate and Social
Justice, University of Winchester)
The reason for me selecting this title is I think it will
stir an interesting debate. I am curious to read on his points and the
influence of his research in his claim that the current climate change
situation is racist.”
So, from reading this blurb I wrote above and researching
sample book reviews on the book, “Climate Change Is Racist: Race, Privilege and
the Struggle for Climate Justice by Jeremy Williams” please write a book review
on the novel. Please keep the tone of my initial blurb. Do understand I did
enjoy the book and that it was indeed an interesting perspective.
Task: Length: This always seems a bit arbitrary; but let’s go with 1000 words
more-or-less (but not much less). I
note that your Climate Data and Information assignment required a minimum of
1000 words. So, there you are – perfect
symmetry. And, if you get anywhere
close to 1500 words you can assume I’ve already stopped reading.
What to Write: You are all upper-division students who have probably had
experience in writing book reviews. Read some book reviews in journals, NY
Times, or any other publications if you need some guidance on how to do
it. Also, I strongly suggest you read some of the reviews of your book to
see what others have said about it.
For further guidance I highly recommend the Writing Center at the
University of North Carolina — Writing Center at the University of North Carolina.

I
am always reluctant to put word limits on your papers, but it seems they are
needed just to give you a sense of how in-depth you need to be on this.
So….750 – 1000 content-rich words in the
body of the paper; that excludes bibliography
etc. If I scratch out all the fluff and all the redundancies, there
should be at least 500 words remaining. Most of you will go well over
this limit without even trying. That’s fine with me as long as it is content-rich.
