INSTRUCTIONS

Your essay will be a comparative analysis of two of the works we have read thus far, focused on a particular theme or concept that both texts engage. Eligible texts include those by:

Chopin
O’Connor

Ellison
Baldwin

Russell

For example, I could look at the figure of the elder in O’Connor and Ellison. Or I could discuss the portrayal of marriage in Russell and Chopin These are examples, not templates. Come up with your own topic and angle. The rules are as follows:

1. You may use any two texts listed above, but not more than two.
2. Use third person (he/she/they/one)
3. Your first paragraph should introduce your topic and angle, culminating in a thesis statement that clearly indicates your argument.
4. Use quotations from the text to support your ideas (see the first week’s readings from 40 Short Stories or check out the online handbook for more on this.)
5. Length: 3-4 pages, reasonably typed in Times 12 or similar.
6. Submitted in .docx or Blackboard-compatible format.
