-Make sure to use a good amount of “personal voice” in the essay; project your own personal beliefs List of Sources I’d like to use: -All the ones attched below + Gandhi (1982) movieFinal Essay Details (provided by course intructor):-Read these instructions carefully submitting the final paper.
The final paper (it shouldn’t be less than 13 pages and shouldn’t exceed 15 pages) will be due no later than December 14. You are welcome to submit it early (starting December 1st) but no later than December 14. The format should be TNR 12 font and double-spaced and notes/footnotes 10 font single-spaced. Late submissions will be penalized. (If you need extra time, speak with me in person and tell me why).
An ideal final paper will examine a theme or historical problem that the course has covered in depth and come up with a new interpretive spin or perspective. Students are encouraged to do some external research on the topic using some of the suggested research resources. Source analysis (both primary and secondary texts), historical thinking and writing (that is ability to contextualize and show fidelity to the time period under consideration, ability to base arguments on historical evidences) will be valued in the essay.
You should try and use only those external sources that you have mentioned in the Prospectus or the ones you ran by me. Remember that this is a history paper, so historical thinking and textual engagement/source analysis, and interpretation will be greatly valued.
As you already know, you are not permitted to write about a theme that the syllabus doesn’t cover. Your essay should be based on the prospectus that you submitted. If you propose to write an essay totally different from what you proposed in the prospectus, then you must get in touch with me to discuss the new topic (else you will be given an F for this assignment). An essay that does not engage with the relevant course readings will not be a good essay (B+ and up).
As I have mentioned many times, every essay should use at least 5 readings; it is fine to use all the 5 readings from the syllabus. 2/3 of the readings (3 out of 5) should be from the syllabus. I take a dim view when you ignore relevant course readings and go after external sources. It gives you away too easily.
If you plagiarize or use AI, then you will be given an F grade. Library staff will be assisting us this time and if they find malpractice then, I won’t be able to do anything, but let you face the worst consequences that other authorities will inflict on you. I am sure you don’t want that!
Make sure that you also upload the same essay for HC assessment after removing your identification, like name. (this is a university requirement). As this is a CC course, the university requires you to submit your fnal paper for evaluation on their end. This will not affect the grades I award. But it is important that you submit the essay after anonymizing it. I wish we didn’t have to do this. But you have to!
It’s been a pleasure getting to know you and teaching you this semester. I hope you leave a good account of yourself. Good Luck!
