Conclusion The negative effects of social media on young children ages 6-12 years old

You have been doing very well and you are almost done! This week will be less writing and wrapping up the first draft before next week. However, if you have any missing assignments, I strongly encourage you to go back and turn them in to get as many points as possible. Every point will count toward your final grade and my goal is for you to succeed.

This week you only have the Conclusion to do. It is due by Sunday October 13, 2024. This is your last opportunity to impress upon the reader just how much the problem needs to be changed/addressed. Select the top 1-3 solutions for your problem and develop each into its own paragraph. Describe how your research will help Child Development stakeholders.

It should be between 1-2 pages in length.

It’s time to draft the final section of your Research Argument paper, the Conclusion.

  • Restate your problem briefly. This is your last opportunity to impress upon the reader just how much the problem needs to be changed/addressed.
  • Determine the outcomes/answers to the problem that you discovered in your research. You must propose one or more possible solutions to the problem. Select the top 1-3 solutions for your problem and develop each into its own paragraph. Describe those with as much detail as possible. Remember that the foundation for these solutions should already be well-covered by the Literature Review, and so this is not the time to introduce significant new research. In other words, the reader should already see these solutions coming and understand how they are connected to the research.
  •  Describe how your research will help Child Development stakeholders. A stakeholder is anyone who would be involved/invested/impacted by the problem and its solutions. Identify each stakeholder specifically, and apply each solution to them. The purpose here is to give as much significance as possible to the research and to the solution(s) you propose.

(Just remember to maintain an academic tone (no first or 2nd person references) in this paper. Avoid phrases like “My research will help professionals…”)

Before you compose your Conclusion draft, take time to review the  Conclusion section Download Conclusion section

 of the sample Research Argument.

Plug your draft into the APA template before you submit it so that you retain proper APA formatting. The Conclusion should appear right after the Literature Review and before the References page.

Conclusion
Extensive research has shown that there is a correlation between increased screen
time and lower social development scoring in children. Children miss out on quality time
with adults, other children, and playing outdoors when sitting in front of a screen. Some
screen time can be used in correct ways that researchers are showing can be beneficial to
young children. Various guidelines are moderately different but all agree that screen time
should be limited for children under five.
A simple seeming solution might be to stop letting children watch screens, but with
technology becoming so integrated into daily life parents might need help. Children miss out on
quality time with adults, other children, and playing outdoors when sitting in front of a screen.
Literature such as How to Get Kids Offline, Outdoors, and Connecting With Nature, by Bonnie
Thomas, can be great resources to extend to parents (Hedges, 2015). Early childhood
professionals can provide alternative screen time books, articles, activities, and workshops to
parents. Research has proven that not all screen time affects children in the same way. Educating
parents and early childhood professionals on the beneficial vs the detrimental will positively
affect children’s development over time. Educating parents and caregivers on the dangers of
screen time and providing them with healthy alternatives is one way children can be spared from
these long lasting effects.
It is surprising to discover that many parents are not aware that there are screen time
recommendations for children. Early childhood educators can provide and post their local
guidelines to parents. This will make parents aware of the current recommendations and might
help them monitor the time their children are spending in front of a screen on a daily basis. A
national or universal guideline should also be established for the use of screen time in children

under five. This will help child development educators and parents by creating a uniform system
they can all follow, teach, and improve. Parents will especially benefit from this because they
will be able to look up the recommendations and find a clean, clear answer. Caregivers and
educators will be able to have a universal guideline to share with everyone related to the field.
This will help make more connections globally and help teachers move around while still having
the correct information. Together caregivers, educators, and children will benefit from knowing
the risks of screen time’s negative effects on a child’s social development.
