You will write a 5-7 page research paper on a topic related to the First Amendment. You may choose from the list below. Your goal with this paper is to discuss the political, social, and legal issues, implications, and consequences of the specific aspect of the First Amendment you’ve chosen (freedom of religion, speech, press, petition, or assembly). Your papers will be tied to a specific court case, law, proposed bill, or policy.
You will explore how these liberties are currently being explored in state and federal courts. You will not simply report about cases: you will analyze the problems, issues, and challenges regarding the liberties in question and apply constitutional principles and theories to your analysis.
