To compile an annotated bibliography, draw on books, journal articles, book chapters, reports, and other appropriate sources of information to compile a basic overview of relevant information resources. From what you found, select the most relevant sources. You will identify a minimum of 10 sources, with at least 7 from peer reviewed contexts. For each source, you will provide: The correct APA citation and a short summary (between 100 – 200 words) which includes the key findings or points from the source, the relevance in terms of your topic, the methods used to compile data and/or present research, and any strengths or weaknesses of the source. In other words, demonstrate your knowledge about the source (the contents presented therein), assess its validity and determine its relevance to your topic. Add a summary of 200 words at the beginning that captures your systematic research on the topic (your search strategy!) and highlights learning and key takeaways from the process of compiling the annotated bibliography and how it supports you in addressing the topic.
in essence, issues i’d want to explore are the historical policies and practices by understanding how these assimilative tactics were designed to eradicate Indigenous people and their identities, while looking into issues in today- like the MMIWG crisis, and explore other forms of institutionalized racism/ marginalization. I would like to look at government and institutions, and how these may perpetuate genocidal policies and practices, the impacts of these on Indigenous communities, and highlight the current efforts aimed at reconciliation- to determine whether there is truly reconciliation, or if it’s just lip service.
My goal of this project is to highlight the legacy and continuation of genocidal policies and their pervasive effects on Indigenous populations, hindering their ability to thrive and maintain Indigenous sovereignty. Id like to bring to light these issues, and create a discourse on justice, healing, and policy reform.
A question I have in mind that may help address this is:
How have historical and contemporary policies and practices in Canada contribute(d) to the genocide of Indigenous peoples, and what are the ongoing impacts on indigenous communities today?
