To ensure my essay adheres to academic standards, I
plan to clearly define its scope by focusing on a specific area, country, or
group. This approach will facilitate a detailed examination and analysis of the
transformations and developments within certain Jewish Orthodox organizations,
activities, and movements pre- and post-Holocaust. My objective is to
investigate the Holocaust’s impact on these entities, specifically how it
influenced their roles, functions, and evolution during and after this tragic
period. While my study is positioned within the field of religious studies,
allowing for an exploration of the psychological, social, psychosocial, and
economic repercussions, the primary emphasis will remain on the religious
implications, particularly the effect of the Holocaust on the change and
development of Jewish Orthodox organizations, activities, and movements.
Initially, I considered Germany as the geographical
focus of my research. However, concerns about the availability of sufficient
material led me to reconsider the scope. The challenge lies in identifying
organizations or activities with a longstanding presence and influence across
the Holocaust period, enabling a comprehensive analysis of its effects.
Consequently, I am contemplating expanding my research to encompass all of
Europe or possibly the United States, depending on where adequate resources can
be found.
Incorporating interviews or conversations with Jews
who have direct or familial experience with these organizations before or after
the Holocaust could enrich my study. While finding individuals with personal
memories spanning both before and after the Holocaust may prove challenging,
insights from those with second-hand knowledge or minor recollections could
still contribute valuable perspectives. Additionally, existing interviews,
surveys, or research could further inform and enhance the study’s findings and
conclusions. Selecting a specific country or area with a rich availability of
material and firsthand accounts will be crucial to the depth and quality of my
analysis.
I have to write The initial section of my thesis will
focus on a comprehensive review of existing literature, including previous
studies, essays, and books that address similar topics. My goal is to
critically analyze the contributions of these works while identifying gaps in
the research that my study aims to fill. Although my thesis will touch upon the
broader context of events before and after the Holocaust, the primary emphasis
will not be on a detailed historical account of these periods. Instead, my research
will concentrate on understanding how Orthodox Jewish social work practices
evolved due to the Holocaust. This involves examining the preferences,
strategies, and adaptations in social work within Orthodox Jewish communities
and assessing the Holocausts impact on these practices. My unique contribution
will be to elucidate the specific ways in which the Holocaust influenced
changes in social work practices among Orthodox Jewish communities in Europe,
both during the Holocaust and in its aftermath.
To construct a comprehensive and nuanced study, I plan
to employ a mixed-methods approach, integrating both qualitative and
quantitative research methodologies. This will include an extensive review of
existing literature, such as academic journals, books, and essays, to situate
my research within the current scholarly landscape. Moreover, I intend to
conduct interviews to gather firsthand insights from individuals directly
involved in or affected by these social work initiatives, ensuring a rich and
diverse data set for analysis.
The theoretical framework for my thesis will be
informed by relevant theories previously applied in similar contexts, ensuring
that my analysis is grounded in established academic principles. This approach,
combined with a rigorous examination of contemporary and historical sources,
aims to fortify my research with a solid scientific basis.
