Correlational Findings of Financial Pressure with Feelings of Inadequacy in Society

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Students will pick and read one of the following research-pairs of articles.  . In the research-pair, there is 1 popular-press article and 1 peer-reviewed research article. If you have taken this class in the past, you must choose the pair of articles you have not written about previously (or not it will be plagiarism).  If you have written about both pairs of articles previously, email your lab TA for an alternative pair of articles. 

2) Students will read the peer-reviewed article (first!), paying close attention to the research design and findings.

3) Students will read the popular press article (second), paying close attention to how the findings of the peer-reviewed article are interpreted and described.

4) Students will review learned information from the text, lecture, and associated course materials regarding research methods and causality

5) Students will compose a well-written, scientific report, targeting the Research-Pair writing requirements.  General formatting and guidelines are as follows (regardless of the Research-Pair chosen): 

GENERAL FORMATTING GUIDELINES:

    • 450-550 (range is firm; not including the title and reference page)
    • Double-spaced
    • Size 12 Times New Roman font
    • 1” margins
    • Title Page (without your name)
    • Reference page (NOT “work cited”)

SCIENTIFIC WRITING REQUIREMENTS (see Integrative Writing for additional assistance):

    • APA formatting is required
    • Integrative writing is needed
    • Refrain from using pronouns (including third-person).  Instead, restate the concept, construct, or term in each sentence.  A pronoun is appropriate to use, when the term is previously identified in the same sentence.  
    • Do not use quotes.  Instead, carefully and thoroughly reflect the author’s idea to synthesize authentic ideas
    • Be comprehensive but concise.  
      • Make sure the main argument is clearly identified and that the paper includes concrete examples.
      • Make sure each sentence makes a succinct and clear point
      • Make sure the ordering of points from sentence to sentence is logical to enhance flow of information
    • Proper spelling, grammar, style, and writing quality are all very important.

    • Identify the research hypothesis, the subject variables (including independent and dependent variables), the design of the study, and the outcome
    • Explain whether and how the outcome of the study supports the research hypothesis
        1. Summarize the popular press article.
          • The popular press article may or may not use causal language. Note any statements, phrases, or conclusions that imply causality. (HINT: the word is “causal,” not “casual.”)
        2. Evaluate whether the press article provided an accurate report of the original research.
