  • Peer Review Workshop Participation: 20 points

Final Due: Feb. 22nd

  • Final Draft: 60 points

This paper will be focusing on one adaptation we have covered in class. The paper will discuss how, through media adaptation, the autobiographical subjects embedded in the memoir genre (memory, identity, space, embodiment, and agency) have been accentuated/changed/erased etc. through the adaptation process. Through your own close analysis and clear examples from the texts, the paper should argue how the texts you look at use the adaptation process to better interrogate one of the autobiographical subjects.

The final paper should be 1200+ words and use at least 3 critical sources.

As we have moved through the texts we have continually interrogated Cheryl’s relationship with various autobiographical subjects and acts. When we experience the transformation of the narrative from one genre to another, (memoir to film) how do these relationships change? Ideally you should focus on one autobiographical subject, because this paper might not be long enough for you to do multiple subjects justice (don’t go above 2). In this paper, in order to properly address the relationship between the two genres and how adaptation affects the autobiographical subjects, you should clearly address how the autobiographical subject works in each text. You should perform close readings of scenes in both the memoir and the film to provide credibility and evidence for your argument.

You can use the chapters from the Smith and Watson text as one of your critical sources.

Please double space, cite in MLA and make sure it is in a file format I can access. (GoogleDoc etc.)
