The research essay will focus on a specific ARGUMENTATIVE topic you choose based off our discussions.

Community discourse assignment. Still using the argumentative format, choose a career path you have a vested interest in and explore the arguments in support of the career as well as the issues one would have to face/overcome to achieve such a career.
Research Proposals
Everyone will present their proposals prior to beginning the writing process. I will try to give you as much feedback on acceptable topics. Note that proposed topics cannot be changed without instructor approval.
Essay Format
After your presentations and my subsequent approval, you will write:
- An introduction paragraph with a well-developed thesis
- Well-developed opposition, rebuttal, and claim paragraphs
- Everyone will submit an Annotated Bibliography page with all the sources you have acquired.
Sources:
You are required to reference FIVE to SEVEN scholarly sources (books, encyclopedias, journals) and appropriately integrate these texts as a means of shaping and supporting the position stated in the thesis. You must use AT LEAST THREE SEPARATE DATABASES. Any website referenced should be CREDIBLE (no blogs or unsubstantiated websites.) Your sources must also include TWO OPPOSING ARGUMENTS. For a research essay of this size, you should not reference over ten sources.

Tentative thesis
When the media show Mexicans in accurate and diverse ways, it could do corrective actions and reduce the false assumption on the negative sterotype of Mexicans. Better representation can break these stereotypes and facilitate respect for Mexican culture.

The lack of cultural representation in media creates negative stereotypes about Mexicans, but showing Mexicans in positive and diverse ways can help reduce these stereotypes.

Some might argue that the media doesn’t create false assumptions of Mexicans. Instead, it is a reflection of the truth. For example poverty and entry into United States illegally.
